Sometimes it’s hard to replace an old door, due to finances….sometimes all it takes is a makeover.  If the wood in in good condition, but it just needs a face lift….try faux painting it!  The results can sometimes be amazing! 

Sorry I don’t have a before picture….imagine a wooden door…peeling paint….needing scraping and sanding……….After the paint was scraped and sanded, I painted on a  white primer (to brighten the next color).  After a day of drying…I painted a base acrylic color of sunshine yellow.  After that was completely dry, I sponged on oil base walnut stain.  (You may paint oil on acrylic, but not acrylic on oil….).  The oil will give the door a weather resistance and the paint will last much longer.  As you can see….the yellow is barely showing  through, but it gives the appearance of the tortoise shell.

I did this one to resemble tortoise shell.  (A door done in the process of renovations….).

  This picture was taken with a flash….so you see, it will bring out more of the color with sunshine….so be sure you have a good light on when you paint.

  As you can see here….the color cools in the darker room.

This one of Kekela’s projects done in Texas…..he says it was pretty slow (5 weeks)….but we know it was worth the time he and the guys took to get it done. 

  There was one big problem that came up during drilling for the posts……they were told the septic tank was in one area of the project, but as they were drilling, they found the septic tank right in the location of one the posts!  

Well, you can imagine the headaches of revising the plans……..major!

  The deck surrounds two sides of the second floor.

The owner wanted glass windows on two sides of this french door….sorry we don’t have a picture of the finished door, but you can see the way it opened up the room…..
